The world premiere of THE OLDEST STORY IN THE WORLD, a retelling of the epic of Gilgamesh, will be presented at The Southern Theater from September 24 - October 3, 2010.
Combining rigorous physical theater, live music and striking stage images, The Oldest Story in the World examines the enduring human question: How do we live knowing that we must die? The play weaves the story of king Gilgamesh and his companion Enkidu through different locations and time periods—Victorian England, modern day Iraq, the sexually charged realm of the gods—to resurrect this remarkably moving and relevant ancient story about how to live a human life, and the consequences of arrogance. We're Going to Russia in Spring 2011!
Lisa Channer has been selected as a 2011 Fulbright Scholar to Russia. She and her family will live in St. Petersburg next spring, where she will teach directing and research the Russian poet Sergei Essenin for a new play about his marriage to dancer Isadora Duncan. That performance will be created and produced by Novi Most in 2011. Novi Most is planning to tour M2:Mayakovsky and Marinetti through Russia while we are there. Keep tuned for details (and when you get them, tell your Russian friends!)
Vladimir Rovinsky has earned a Long Term Faculty Research Award from St. Cloud State College. This grant will enable Vladimir to study advanced Biomechanics with Alexei Levinsky in Moscow next spring. He hopes to teach the method in Minneapolis more regularly beginning in Fall 2011.
IAS Gilgamesh Funding Continued
Lisa Channer and her Research Collaborative "Embodying Gilgamesh" has been awarded another year of funding by the Institute for Advanced Study at the University of Minnesota. This will allow the company to explore new video and multimedia design ideas for our premiere of the The Oldest Story in the World opening September 2010 at the Southern Theatre, Minneapolis. |
